LinkedIn Positions (Current & Past) Can people find you?

To change or add a position in your LinkedIn profile, click on the [Edit this Position] link.

In addition to your official job title, also include some relevant searchable key words in the [Title] field so people can easily find you.

For example:

If you are a Managing Director, but also a Public Speaker or Business Coach, you might put Managing Director, Public Speaker and Business Coach in the Title field ...

And remember, the more past positions you add, the more likely you are to be found!

Linking … LinkedIn Company Pages to Your Profile

Before you add a Current or Past position, create a Company Page if one does not exist. If one does exist then select it from the Company Name drop down box as you type the first few letters.

If the company you choose has a Company Page on LinkedIn then a small icon will appear next to the entry on your profile. Anyone reading your profile will be able to hover their mouse over these icons to initiate a Pop Up screen containing more details about the company.

Sales, Marketing & Management Ideas - Vol. 004 By: Tim Williams

If you would like to know how to narrow your LinkedIn search results then read on …

Boolean logic allows you to combine words and phrases into search statements to retrieve documents / records via Internet search engines (browsers ... IE, Chrome, FireFox, Safari) or from searchable databases.

Most database searching is based on the principles of Boolean logic. Boolean logic refers to the logical relationship among search terms, and is named after the British-born Irish mathematician George Boole.

LinkedIn’s contents can also be searched according to the rules of computer database searching.

Boolean logic consists of three logical operators:
  • AND
  • OR
  • NOT  or The minus sign (-)
You can use individual Boolean logic operators or combinations of operators in specific search fields to narrow down your LinkedIn search results.

Example # 1: Advanced People Search / AND

If you only want to find results with both the terms ‘sales’ and also ‘marketing’ then type – [ sales AND marketing ] in the Title field

Example # 2: Advanced People Search / OR

If you want to find results with either the term ‘sales’ or ‘marketing’ then type – [ sales OR marketing ] in the Title field

Example # 3A: Advanced People Search / NOT

If you want to find results with the term ‘sales’ but not ‘sales and also ‘marketing’ then type – [ sales NOT marketing ] in the Title field

Example # 3B: Advanced People Search / the minus sign (-)

If you want to find results with the term ‘sales’ but not ‘sales and also ‘marketing’ then type – [ sales -marketing ] in the Title field

Note: Title results are derived from both the Professional Headline and Current Positions on LinkedIn profiles.
